Ryanair fights to defend stealth charges
Now one Spanish court has challenged Ryanair over it's boarding pass charge - and won. So is this the end for one of the most annoying charges?
Boarding pass charge challenged
The court case was over the charge for printing a boarding pass. At the moment the airline tells passengers to print off a pass before they arrive at the airport. If they forget, or leave it at home, they have to pay £40 to have another one printed out by check in staff.
The court in Spain ruled that the charge is illegal under international law.
So will that be an end to this insane charge?
Not so fast. For a start Ryanair is appealing the decision, so it could be overturned. But more importantly this is the sort of court fight that Ryanair doesn't like to lose. So instead of bowing to the demands of the ruling, it has already threatened that if it loses the appeal, it will simply drop the option of having a boarding pass printed at the airport. So if you forget to do it - or leave it at home - you'll be turned away from the airport.
It wouldn't be outside the realms of possibility for Ryanair to confound a decision by doing the unexpected. It faced a court case involving disabled passengers and wheelchairs - and responded with a wheelchair surcharge.
So what do you think? Will this be enough to put you off Ryanair, or are you organised enough to remember your boarding card every time? Let us know in the comments.
