A third of us are sinking deeper into debt every day

In recent months, most of us have been cutting back on luxuries in order to keep our heads above the financial water. However, new research shows that we're now beginning to dodge essential expenses too, in a desperate effort to make ends meet.

It seems that for some people, that's still not enough to make the cash in our wallets last until payday. In fact, a worrying one in three of us is sinking ever-deeper into debt...

The new figures - from Co-operative Insurance and homeless charity Shelter - reveal just how desperate the situation is becoming. Some 28% of us are now spending more money each month than we have coming in. And with the cost of basic outgoings such as rent, mortgage payments and energy bills, UK adults face an average shortfall of £165 every month.

In the survey, a whopping three-quarters of people aged between 25 and 34 admitted to having money worries. This might explain why the younger generation has become meaner than ever.

Recent research from Shelter also showed that over two million people are now turning to their credit cards to pay their rent or mortgage - a desperate act that's never going to end well. And in their efforts to cut back, Brits are now beginning to make false economies which could have disastrous financial consequences.

Cutting corners
The latest study revealed that 22% of the population doesn't think having home contents insurance is important. However, nearly 80% of those questioned said they wouldn't be able to afford to replace expensive items without it. Around 8% even said they had deliberately undervalued the contents of their home, to keep insurance premiums down.

Having a decent home insurance policy is really important. In a worst case scenario - for example if your home is destroyed by fire - that relatively small spend could make the difference between being able to replace everything, and being completely destitute.

Every Driver Needs Car Liability Insurance

One of the types of insurance you must have in order to drive your vehicle is car liability insurance. In most areas the minimum amount of coverage you must carry is determined by law.

You can choose to increase your amount of coverage but you can’t carry less than the law requires, so be sure to check into the amounts for your area. A great place to start if you need information on this is www.21st.com. They can quickly explain the two types of liability insurance available and how much coverage you should have.

Car liability insurance for bodily injury is necessary for two basic reasons. You must protect yourself against losses and injury received as a result of an automobile accident, and you must also protect yourself against the losses and injury suffered by other people who may be victims of an accident that you have caused.

What car liability insurance provides for you in the event of a crash is financial coverage for things such as legal fees in the case of a law suit, medical bills or income compensation for the injured party, and sometimes cash settlements for things such as pain and suffering.

Sometimes in an accident, there may be damage caused to property other than the cars involved. For example, if you were to drive your car into a building or fence, you would be liable for damages to that object. This is where car liability insurance for property damage has you covered. Property damage liability amounts are not pre set by law, you can choose the amount you wish to carry but most insurance companies will suggest appropriate coverage for the average driver.

While choosing a lower amount of coverage for property damage car liability insurance may seem like a way to lower your monthly premium, it could also put you at a financial risk if the expenses of an accident must come out of your own pocket.

Any questions or clarifications you need regarding car liability insurance can quickly and easily be answered at www.21st.com. Be certain you understand exactly what your policy provides before purchasing your final coverage.
